The APPG on Education will be hosting its next meeting focussed on outdoor learning, its benefits, and how to promote further uptake including in areas where access to greenspace is more limited. It will be held on Wednesday 31st January 2024 at 2.30pm in Room Q, Portcullis House
The benefits of outdoor learning at school are clear, especially when children are spending less and less time outdoors at home – something that is harder for us to control. Despite this, statistics show children continue to spend less time outdoors at school since before the pandemic. The UK’s leading outdoor learning and play charity, Learning Through Landscapes, found that 88% of teachers agreed that children are happier after playing outdoors and 97% of teachers believe that outdoor playtime throughout the school day is critical for children to reach their full potential. Our meeting aims to explore how outdoor education can contribute to child development, alleviating some of the problems we have seen arise from COVID and supporting strong academic performance.
We will hear from representatives from industry and educators, after which there will be a discussion and Q&A session concluding with a list of actions for the APPG to take forward.
